Retro Industrial in a century old storefront home
A young vibrant couple looked for their turn of the century home to be more of an expression of themselves. I was first commissioned by Jacob Laws to build the room divider. This gave much needed storage and display space. Along with a bit of separation in the voluminous main room. It's oak, steel and soapstone construction brings industrial chic into the home.
The owners and I then collaborated on the fireplace renovation. The previous owner had sorta thrown it together. That was scrapped and a new slate hearth, stonework and steel and walnut panels installed.
The wife is a talented seamstress and wanted a work table to match her new pieces in the home. I designed and built the cedar and zinc piece. The cedar was finished using the ancient Japanese art of Shou-Sugi-Ban wood burning. The zinc top will add it's own character over it's life as it's patina changes.
